An Intimate Wedding at Darwin Lake, Matlock
There’s something really special about an intimate wedding. With fewer guests, there’s often more time to focus on the people who matter most, the little moments, and simply enjoying being together.
Katy and Grant’s intimate wedding at Darwin Lake, Matlock was exactly that, relaxed, personal and full of lovely moments.
Kind words from Katy & Grant
" We are so glad we chose Pippa to be our wedding photographer she captured everything we wanted and much, much more so beautifully.
We can't stop looking at our photographs, Pippa captured lots of precious moments from our day, ones we didn't even think of ourselves and we are so grateful we have these moments to remember.
We felt so at ease with Pippa, she truly is amazing and gets the most perfect, quality shots no matter what the weather!
Our photographs are stunning and we will cherish them forever. We can't thank her enough and 100% recommend Pippa to anyone. "
A relaxed start at Darwin Lake
There was a lovely sense of anticipation as Katy and Grant arrived separately at Darwin Lake. With the surrounding countryside and the beautiful setting of the venue, it was the perfect place for an intimate wedding in Derbyshire.
I joined Katy and Grant for two hours of their wedding day at this beautiful Derbyshire wedding venue, starting with their separate arrivals. And, of course, they didn’t arrive alone, their much-loved dog, Alfie, was there to be part of the day too.
The weather, however, had other ideas!
It had been spitting with rain throughout the day, and the forecast was threatening even heavier rain later on. With only a couple of hours to photograph their wedding, I knew we had to make the most of every opportunity.
After their ceremony, we headed outside for confetti before capturing some family photographs. These are always important photographs to have! However, once we'd got the formal photographs out of the way, I wanted to make sure Katy and Grant had some time together for their couple portraits.
Making the most of the weather
Because the rain was already starting to appear, I decided to take Katy and Grant out for their couple portraits straight after the ceremony.
It turned out to be a very good decision.
The rain was still light enough to work with, and we were able to take advantage of the beautiful surroundings at Darwin Lake. Rather than worrying about the weather, we embraced it and kept things relaxed and natural.
This is one of the things I love about wedding photography - you can't control the weather, but you can make the most of whatever the day gives you.
Katy and Grant were completely themselves in front of the camera, which meant we could concentrate on enjoying the moment rather than worrying about creating perfectly posed photographs.
And then, almost perfectly timed...
We finished the portraits, walked back inside the venue, and the heavens opened.
We were all so happy that we'd made the decision to go out when we did!
An intimate Darwin Lake wedding
Katy and Grant's wedding was a wonderful reminder that you don't need a huge wedding to have an incredible wedding day.
